IBS and Bloating. Causes and Solutions

There are lots of causes of IBS and Bloating. I want to help you eliminate the main causes so here goes…

  • Drink your water 30 mins before all meals and not with meals (you will avoid diluting your digestive juices that weaken your digestive system as a whole). A pint of water is the ideal and if you can’t do this much increase this gradually start with half pints.
  • To calm gut reactions, it is good to eliminate large protein foods that stick to the gut wall causing gut permeability (leaky gut). Eliminate dairy and gluten grains and take slippery elm at bedtime along with a good quality probiotic after breakfast for 3 months whilst your gut heals.
  • Don’t eat fruit immediately after main meals. Fruit digests within minutes whereas a fish or chicken salad or sandwich takes up to 4 hours. The fruit will cause fermentation, gas and bloating and make you feel uncomfortable. Try eat fruit either 20 mins before or in between meals.
  • Avoid those yoghurt drinks! If you want to increase your gut bacteria, take a good quality probiotic supplement and keep changing the strains to grow a diverse microbiome. Your gut bacteria is responsible for up to 85% of your immune health!
  • Consider a colonic irrigation treatment with ozone therapy to reset your gut environment so that you start with the right clean, decongested environment. Remember, you can’t grow grass on concrete!
  • Take a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar ten minutes before all meals to strengthen your gastric juices. Many acid reflux sufferers have low stomach acid and are dehydrated.
  • Keep red meat to a minimum as this sits in your large bowel fermenting, causing gas, bloating and IBS symptoms. Opt for other protein sources such as quinoa (an easily digestible protein), free range chicken (where possible) and oily fish. It has been medically proven that a high red meat consumption is a direct cause of bowel cancer as it changes the bowel lining.
  • Consider colon hydrotherapy to clean the bowel for better digestion. Ozone therapy helps eliminate the bad bacteria and can be added into the treatment for optimal benefits, leaving you with a flatter calmer tummy.
  • If taking Proton pump inhibiting medication long term, this can cause digestive conditions such as SIBO and candida. There are tests we can do to determine if you have these conditions so that we can address the causes.
  • Chew your food (your stomach has no teeth!) All digestion must start in the mouth where saliva produces digestive enymes to break down your food if you chew 20 to 30 times until its liquid. If eating a soup or smoothie, still chew this to release the enzymes for digestion. Chew slowly, take your time to allow the hormone Leptin to be released so that you feel sufficiently full (this takes 20 minutes so slow down).

How to Make Flaxseed/Linseed Tea

FLAXSEED TEA/LINSEED TEA

You Need:

  • Two heaped tablespoons of organic flaxseeds.
  • One litre of clean water. You may use more water to end up with a thinner tea.
  • A large pan.

Making It:

  1. Put the seeds and water in the pan, bring it to a slight simmer. Do not allow to overflow onto your cooker – very messy!
  2. As soon as it has come to a simmer turn it off straight away and leave it to stand overnight.
  3. Next morning bring the tea to a slight simmer again, put the pan on the smallest ring or element and turn the heat down to the lowest setting.
  4. Leave the tea to cook for about an hour by which time you will have perfect flax tea. Strain off the seeds and discard them.
  5. Put some into a mug and enjoy “Hug in a Mug”.
  • The tea can be allowed to cool and put in a glass jug in the fridge. You can take out a mugful at a time and reheat it in a pan whenever you want some more.
  • It will last for a couple of days as long as you keep it in the fridge.
  • To use in an enema; about half a pint of tea in one and a half pints of warm water. Hold for between 15 – 20 mins. The purpose of a linseed tea enema is to offer reassurance and a strong message of hydration & soothing via the bowel itself, which will pass that message on to the liver.

Benefits:

The colon (large intestine) sends messages to the rest of the body telling it if enough water is coming in. If the body gets the message that there isn’t enough water coming in then it will go on Dehydration Alert, where it puts various measures into action to try and conserve water. One of these measures is to produce cholesterol to coat the cell walls as a means of retaining water in the cell. Unfortunately, the cholesterol has the effect of hardening the cell walls which obstructs the body’s natural cycle of day/night cleansing. Consequently the cell becomes more acidic and toxins build up. Toxic cell, toxic person!

Flax tea re-introduces the body to oil and water which is basically what every cell of your body is made of! You are thickened water and so is flax tea! It gives a reassuring message of hydration to the colon. By reassuring the colon, flax tea is one of the ways we can encourage the body to come off dehydration alert. It will stop producing cholesterol so water can flow freely in and out of cells allowing nutrients to get in and toxins to get out.

How to do a Kidney Cleanse

Start your kidney cleanse by drinking 1 litre of pure water -preferably distilled -to which you have added the juice of 1 lemon (or I lime), preferably organic. Add 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, or a little more to taste. Follow this drink after a few minutes with a cup of ‘kidney’ tea -Dandelion leaf plus Parsley leaf and/or a little Corn Silk or whatever you can obtain from the herbal stores (dandelion tea is very good). Take a dose of your prescribed kidney tincture -maybe a combination of some of the following herbs ­Dandelion, Marshmallow, Chickweed and Burdock root, some of which are demulcent and protective to the urinary tract. Ask your practitioner for a herbal formula.

Drink kidney tea and/or Barley Water (not commercially made) until lunch time. For lunch drink vegetable juices, diluted to taste (celery is very alkalising) or eat a raw salad of Dandelion leaves (pick fresh from an uncontaminated source), grated beetroot, grated carrot, and any sprouted seeds. For dressings use only olive oil, lemon juice, or apple cider vinegar. Remember not to get chilled -use a little cayenne pepper and/or ginger on the salad to bring a little warmth to the food.

For the remainder of the day continue to drink kidney tea and barley water and take more of your tincture formula. Drink more vegetable juices and eat more raw salad if you wish. Throughout the day drink lots ofpure water.

KIDNEY CLEANSE

Keep warm throughout the day of the cleanse and if your are kidney cleansing in winter, add some ginger and/or cayenne to the cleanse to add warmth.

HOME-MADE BARLEY WATER (from a recipe taught by Jill Rosemary Davies)

Use half a cup of whole barley to five cups of water. Add a quarter of a stick of cinnamon and a little grated fresh ginger. Simmer for 20 minutes, cool, strain, and add fresh lemon juice to taste.

How to do a Morning Liver Drink

The Liver Flush

 A morning drink to aid liver function is an ideal way to perk up your digestive system and help towards feeling brighter and more energetic after a period of time.

The main function of the drink is to aid the release of old stored toxins, which are usually the residue of drugs, fatty deposits and chemical pollutants from everyday life.

Before starting to use these drinks regularly it is best to begin by drinking plenty of water and cutting right down on coffee, tea and foods containing large amounts of sugar and animal fat (you will have achieved this if you have completed stages 1 and 2 of a herbal colon cleanse or performed daily enema flushes or received a Colon Irrigation Treatment).

This morning routine detoxifies the liver, stimulating it to cleanse itself by dumping bile through the biliary tract into the gastrointestinal tract, making you feel lighter and more energetic. It also is nourishing and supporting to both your immune system and digestion, and will help your body to throw off the threat of viral or bacterial infection.

Perform this routine first thing in the morning before eating. You may feel a little faint or sick at first, or develop a slight headache-this is temporary hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar) as a result of not eating when you are used to. If you persevere this will be cured by the routine. The garlic in the flush is a wonderful remedy for the pancreas, as it works to correct blood sugar imbalances and stimulates the secretion of digestive enzymes.

You may need to perform the kidney flush for a few days before you start on the liver flush (if advised by your practitioner). Then perform the liver flush for five days in a row, break for two days, then perform another five. You can repeat this flush any time you are feeling a bit sluggish, after overindulgence of any kind, or routinely at the change of the seasons, which is a time that tends to put stress on our systems.

How to Prepare the Liver Flush

WHAT YOUWILL NEED

The juice of one or two freshly squeezed lemons (add in small amount of the rind too)

  • 8 fl.oz / 200ml organic fresh pressed apple juice 8 fl.oz / 200ml spring water
  • 1-4 cloves of fresh garlic
  • 1-4 tablespoons of cold pressed extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 small piece of fresh ginger root (1 cm). Omit the ginger if your liver is hot, enlarged or inflamed

Do not eat anything before drinking the liver flush

  • Juice the lemon in a juicer.
  • Crush then finely chop the garlic.
  • Grate the ginger.
  • Place all of the ingredients in a blender and liquidiser .
  • Pour out and drink slowly.
  • Start preparing the herbal detox tea.

CONDITIONS TO TREAT General congestion , digestive bloating and fullness, low immunity, menstrual problems, allergies, persistent headaches (check with a medical practitioner first for more serious possibilities).

CONTRAINDICATIONS If you have gallstones or a liver disease such as hepatitis, do not use this procedure without consulting a professional practitioner. If you are pregnant you may do this flush, however, substitute a simple herbal tea instead of the detox tea, peppermint is ideal.

Ten to Fifteen minutes after you have finished drinking the liver flush, sip at least two mugs of the detox tea or peppermint or lemon and hot water slowly for the next hour or so.

Do not eat anything for two hours after you start this routine, then preferably eat something light fruit is ideal.

If headaches or feelings of anger are experienced whilst using liver drinks, it is a sign that the liver is being toned and toxins are being released into your body for removal.

Drinking plenty of water and some gentle exercise will help to flush the toxins away.

This is a gentle cleanse, and it is important not to try to do too much too soon. Cleanse a little, build a little is the motto here.

If you feel very uncomfortable doing this cleanse lower the amount of olive oil and garlic and slowly build up the amounts used over a period of time. What has taken years to accumulate should not be purged from your body with undue haste.

If your practitioner has made you a liver/gall bladder herbal tonic, a teaspoon may be added to the liver drink.

Please consult your practitioner as to the frequency.

How to Make Sole

Original Himalayan Crystal Salt Stones

These diamond-like crystals of natural Himalayan Crystal Salt contain trace minerals essential for life. Used for making Sole, a daily infusion of energy balancing elixir. A highly effective product for the normalizing of mineralization in the human body. This salt has been shown in a clinical study to be effective in helping to stabilize pH and Oxidative Stress numbers in the human body. Hydration indicators showed an average of 10‰ increase.

Making Sole

Step 1: Everyone knows that salt dissolves in water, right? But did you know that if you keep adding salt to a glass of water you’ll get to a point where the water becomes super-salty or saturated with salt? Did you also know that when the water becomes super-salty or saturated with salt that the salt will just sit on the bottom of the glass without dissolving? This is exactly what the Original Himalayan Crystal Salt Sole is, super-saturated, salty water. Here’s how to make it.

Place 1 inch of Original Himalayan Crystal Salt stones in a glass jar, preferably one with a lid.

Add 2 to 3 inches of good quality artesian or spring water above the stones, completely covering the crystals with water. Let sit overnight.

Step 2: If all the salt crystals have dissolved, add a few more salt crystals to the water. Your Original Himalayan Crystal Salt Sole is ready when the water becomes fully saturated with salt and cannot hold any more.

The salt will no longer dissolve at this stage. Your finished Sole should resemble the photo at left. There should always be salt crystals in the jar. As you use up the Original Himalayan Crystal Salt Sole, after some time, add more water and more salt until the water is again saturated. Remember, there should always be undissolved salt crystals on the bottom of the jar. This is your visual proof that the water is totally saturated with salt.

Step 3: Each morning, before eating or drinking anything, add one teaspoon of the Original Himalayan Crystal Salt Sole to a glass of artesian or spring water and drink. Your body will receive the energetic vibration pattern of the Original Himalayan Crystal Salt and hold it for 24 hours. Keep the container covered to prevent the water from evaporating. Otherwise, no special storage is needed.

The fully saturated Original Himalayan Crystal Salt Sole will keep forever! Salt is a natural anti-bacterial and natural fungicide. It simply cannot spoil or go bad.

The Concentration of Sole

When the percentage of concentration of the Original Himalayan Crystal Salt Sole are talked about in the book Water & Salt-The Essence of Life, they mean the ratio of water to salt.

Sole = A fully saturated solution of water and the Original Himalayan Crystal Salt. The water becomes saturated with salt when the water can no longer dissolve more salt. At this point, the salt crystals remain undissolved on the bottom of the jar, indicating that the solution has reached it’s saturation limit. The water is now fully saturated with salt. This is what we call Sole. One teaspoon of Original Himalayan Crystal Salt Sole contains 478 mg of Sodium – That’s equivalent to 20% of the USDA’s recommended daily allowance of 2,500 mg.

Sole Solution = When we speak of a sole solution, we speak of a diluted quantity of the concentrated Sole in water. When we take the fully saturated Sole and add water to it, we create a Sole solution. Many of the therapeutic application for the Original Himalayan Crystal Salt require a Sole solution.

For Example:
A 1% Sole solution is 1 part Sole and 99 parts water.
A 5% Sole solution is 5 parts Sole and 95 parts water.
An 8% Sole solution is 8 parts Sole and 92 parts water, and so on.
